Weekend Pix (7/11/04)

The newly-renovated Riverfront Parkway in downtown Chattanooga features wide sidewalks, trees, on-street parking.
This is quite a change from the earlier incarnation of the Parkway, which was less friendly.
In the distance, past the Walnut Street pedestrian bridge, cranes work on the Hunter Museum of Art.
Looking down Riverfront Parkway, toward Ross's Landing.

The new expansion building to the Tennessee Aquarium is under way, featuring a 500,000 gallon saltwater tank.
Evidently this will become a series of terraces that lead down to the river's edge.
The decaying Market Street Bridge is on the left.
The new Aquarium building mimics elements of the original structure - peaked roof, striped exterior.

Below Riverfront Parkway, construction continues on improved docks and river access.
More dock construction
I suspect the river-side of the new expansion building will feature glass walls facing the Tennessee River.
The street lights on the new Parkway feature both direct lighting (upper left) and indirect lighting (on the right) - at night this gives a nice soft glow to the walkways.

There are several on-street parking spaces, a welcome touch. No parking meters, either, at least so far.
Looking through the crane and peeking through Market Street Bridge to see Coolidge Park on the North Shore.
More dock construction? I forget how the architect's renderings apply to this area.
Another view of Aquarium construction.

The new walkways are half-concrete, half-brick.
Duct tape left over from Riverbend 2004; this probably signifies where the UTC/CSTCC tent was located (as seen in earlier Riverbend photos).
Wide shot to give context to old CSTCC tape.
Intersection of Chestnut Street and Riverfront Parkway, with Olgiati Bridge in the distance.
