San Francisco Trip 2005 - H

On this fine Saturday we decide to walk across the Golden Gate Bridge.
Nice Art Deco details on the bridge (built in late 1930s)
We (King, Gwen, me) park the car on the Marin side of the bridge and start a' walkin'!
The day's promise of warmth and blue skies is not met; instead, we have overcast chill, though not unbearable.

I hug the inside rail, for the heights make me a little dizzy.
King & Gwen, perilously close to the edge.
This is Alcatraz. Looks bigger on TV, doesn't it?
Nice to see they're considerate enough to give the jumpers someone to talk to.

This bridge is a suspension bridge; the tubes that contain the cables are nearly 7 feet thick.
A view looking up one of the tall supports. Or pylons? Hmm.
Painted orangish-red, mainly because they're coating the metal with iron oxide to prevent rust.
The fear is just barely apparent in my eyes.

You didn't *really* think that was Alcatraz, did you?
We made it! We made it! Ooh.. now we hafta walk back across it.
There seems to be some kinda sailing regatta underway in the Bay.
The Golden Gate Bridge, named after this area being the "Golden Gateway to California - fame, fortune, more f-words..."

King shoots me as I gather steam for the return trip
I do believe that's a Bay Cruise boat approaching the Bridge.
The Bridge Tenders are big on pictorial symbols.
It looks a little warmer before, but actually the wind has picked up.
