San Francisco Trip 2005 - E
Sun rises over Reno, Sunday morning.
The Amtrak refugees assemble downstairs at the Golden Phoenix, awaiting a bus and/or information
Slot machines are tempting us as we wait
Tony and Rhonda - she's trying not to stare hungrily at the gamblin' boxes
Ready to go, waiting for Amtrak buses...
Finally our bus arrives. We'll be riding over the Sierra Nevadas by bus, going to Emeryville
The snow is high in Reno
We slowly climb into the mountains
The blue sky is covered with overcasty clouds
The snow is even higher up in the mountains - probably around 12-14 feet.
At times the height of the snow was near our heads, and we're on a tall charter bus!
We make it to Emeryville (our actual original train destination)
Ah yes, the Pointless Arrow. (Now replaced by new logo, the Receding Tracks)
Our courageous driver (at left) got us through the mountains on I-80
King and Gwen arrive to pick me up and take me the last leg to San Francisco
Work continues on renovating the Bay Bridge. Who needs an approved design, anyway?
Now on suspension part of Bay Bridge
And we make it home (their house is the gray one at left)
